The nation is stunned by the heart-wrenching video of violence in Manipur. So far, 4 accused have been arrested for brutally attacking two women in public.
The entire nation is in shame amidst the horrific incident of brutality in Manipur. The country is witnessing anger over the indecent exposure and parading of two women. They have also been subjected to a gang rape. The first day of the parliamentary session saw uproar over the issue.
The Supreme Court and the National Commission for Women have taken cognizance of the matter. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed sorrow over the incident and assured strict action. Four suspects have been arrested in connection with this case. In the meantime, on Friday, an enraged crowd set fire to the main accused’s house in the heinous crime. The incident took place in the Checkmai area.

Two and a half months had passed since the suspects were arrested. The case came to light just two days ago, and with increasing anger across the country, Manipur police took action and apprehended all four accused within 24 hours.
According to Manipur police, they have claimed to arrest the main conspirator and accused, Herodas Singh, in connection with the incident. This arrest was made following the first arrest in Thoubal district.
Manipur’s Governor, Anusuya Uikey, has issued a statement on the viral video. She said, “I have directed the DGP (Director General of Police) to take immediate action to file the case against the criminals and ensure strict punishment.” She has also instructed the DGP to take action against the accused. However, the police officers at the station where the complaint was lodged did not take any action in this incident.
The National Human Rights Commission has sent notices to Manipur’s Chief Secretary and Director General of Police (DGP) and demanded a response within four weeks. The government has instructed social media platforms, including Twitter, to immediately remove the videos depicting brutality.

On Wednesday night, the police filed an FIR against unidentified individuals for abduction, gang rape, and murder at Nongpok Sekmai Police Station in Thoubal district.

Action needs to be taken there.”
